About Direct Entry Roles
If you are an experienced middle manager, senior manager or director in any sector looking for a more rewarding career where you can directly help people and make a personal difference to the lives of people in all of our communities, you are being asked to consider a switch of management career into Policing.
The College's DE programme recruits people at the senior rank of Inspector in partnership with Forces across England and Wales. This role require dedicated, talented, flexible and proven leaders from outside Policing and do not require any previous policing experience.
Applicants are recruited for their management skills in areas including budgets, teams, resources, systems and cultural change while also demonstrating their diversity of thought, life perspective and experience throughout the rigorous selection and assessment process.
The external DE recruitment programme works alongside internal Police leadership development programmes to deliver the future cadre of senior police officers that the Service requires in a fast paced changing world where the Police require internal and external talent streams to deliver against the many challenges presented.
Cumbria Police are recruiting for Direct Entry Inspectors only and are looking for individuals who possess the required competencies for the role and make no apology for the robustness of the programme. Successful applicants will be enrolled onto a 24 month combined classroom based and in-force training and development programme, which will equip recruits with the policing skills to complement their personal management experience and attributes. Rotational periods are spent in the roles of PC, Sergeant and Inspector during the training.
The College has helped Forces recruit previous cohort members from a variety of industries including retail, journalism, professional services, banking, HM Forces, Local Government, Civil Service, Marketing, Journalism and Education.
DE recruits are already making their mark and after some initial resistance have been well accepted by colleague's in-Force and are illustrating their value in challenging and bringing difference into senior officer thinking where appropriate while leading from the front, empowering staff and bringing new creativity and fresh ideas into the Service.
